How we work

The Cyber Helpline provides a free 24/7 self-help service and a confidential helpline for individuals and sole traders.

We help victims understand, contain, recover and learn from cyber attacks by linking them with cybersecurity experts who provide relevant advice and guidance.

Who we help

Individuals

If you are in the UK or USA, are 13 years or older and are experiencing an issue with your own online accounts or devices then we can help.

Sole Traders

We can also help sole traders who are experiencing online security issues with their business accounts or technology.

Our service is for individuals and sole traders only, we do not provide support to businesses.

If your business is experiencing a cybersecurity issue you can read our guide here.

Investigations

For high-risk cases, our Investigations Team provide a deeper level of support. Trained in Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) techniques, they analyse your digital footprint to help you understand the threats against you and what steps to take to stay safe. If our Helpline team feels your case requires this level of support, they will escalate it to the Investigations Team on your behalf.

Threat Intelligence

Threat Intelligence is the process of collecting data and analysing it to understand a cyber criminal's motives, how they might target individuals, and the common behaviours they display during an attack. Gathering this information helps us make informed decisions to identify threats before they occur, as well as responding to real-time attacks quicker. We publish our findings and pass on all of this knowledge — including our cybercrime data dashboard — as well as practical skills that you can implement to help protect yourself and your loved ones online.
