Meet the Team behind The Cyber Helpline

Mary Calam

Mary has an extensive background in the UK government, notably as Director General for Crime, Policing, and Fire at the Home Office, and has worked in senior roles in agencies like the Independent Police Complaints Commission and the Serious Organised Crime Agency. After leaving the government in 2016, she joined McKinsey & Company, focusing on public sector clients and crisis management. Currently, she is an independent consultant and board adviser in law enforcement and national security.

Mike Wawro

Mike is a retired business leader with 30 years of IT experience, half of which was in the field of cybersecurity, marketing and implementing cybersecurity professional services. He is also an accredited Project Manager with wide experience of implementing business-critical transformational projects. Mike is committed to ensuring the continued viability and successful evolution of the charity.

Stuart Quick

Stuart has worked in the Security Risk Management and Information Security Industries for over 20 years. He brings a wide range of experience from roles in consulting, project management and senior management positions. He currently works in the Cyber Insurance industry and is a Helpline Responder and Ambassador for The Cyber Helpline.

Dr Andrew Dell

Andy has worked for over 30 years in the technology and telecommunications sectors, most recently in Senior Management and Director roles in cyber security at a Big Four consultancy firm. He brings extensive experience in corporate governance, risk management and cyber security operational resilience to his role as trustee at The Cyber Helpline.

Phil Tansley

Phil is a partner at an international law firm with a particular specialism in cyber and technology issues. He was a pioneer in the field of cyber insurance and brings over 20 years’ experience of advising clients - from company boards to individuals - on legal, regulatory, and governance issues. Phil is ideally placed to use his legal experience to further the aims of the charity.

David Boda

David has previously led cybersecurity for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Camelot Group and currently is Chief Security and Resilience Officer for Nationwide Building Society. Over his 20 year career in security David has helped develop national and international security standards and defined and delivered multiple cybersecurity transformation programmes.

Kim Barker

Prof Kim Barker, PhD, is an internationally recognised academic with expertise in online harms and tech facilitated violence. She has over 10 years’ experience in higher education delivering cutting-edge projects that advocate for greater legal and policy responses to online harms, and has advised a number of governments, NGOs, and tech platforms on issues related to online harms and tech facilitated violence. She is committed to ensuring voice of the victim is always at the heart of the work of The Cyber Helpline, and is used as a powerful tool for advocating for greater victim support in online harm situations.

Jennifer Anderson

Jennifer is a Chartered Accountant with expertise in leading internal audit and assurance functions. She has a breadth of experience across sectors including gaming, logistics, insurance and professional services. Her expertise ranges across audit, risk management and governance. She has supported charities and community-focused organisations through strategic and financial advisory roles. Her passion for raising awareness of cybercrime and supporting victims drew her to The Cyber Helpline, where she hopes to bring a thoughtful, risk-led perspective to the trustee board.

Dr. Emma Short

Emma is a Chartered Health Psychologist based at London Metropolitan University and has a longstanding interest in cyber psychology. She has worked to represent the impact of technological evolutions within harassment, stalking and fixated abuse since 2005. Emma is committed to improving awareness of all forms of cyber abuse and extending provision for those seeking help.

Linda Baskett

Linda has over 20 years' experience in financial crime prevention, detection and investigation. She has worked in several large financial services firms, focusing on both financial crime and data protection/information security. Currently, she holds a senior global position in financial crime prevention. Linda is a frequent speaker at industry events, where she actively promotes best practice in the field of financial crime risk and compliance.

Patrick Burgess

Initially hailing from the technical side of IT, Patrick now has significant experience in organisational-level strategy, security, and best practice. Patrick is a member of the Information Security Steering Committee, which helps form BCS policy on cybersecurity for both business and government legislation. A keen member of CompTIA, he also sits on the executive steering committee for their Threat Intelligence sharing platform. Patrick has a good understanding of our users’ needs, having been a Cyber Responder and Case Specialist in the past.

Alan Coburn

Alan is an Information Security services professional with more than 15 years of experience in leadership, management, and senior practitioner roles. As an advisor to The Cyber Helpline board of Trustees, he brings a broad range of project and services delivery experience, from working in cybersecurity consulting and managed security services delivery. Alan currently works in business development and cybersecurity services sales.

Angeleen Hill
Angeleen is a survivor of a more than six year stalking and harassment campaign which involved a range of online harm. She joins the Advisory Board as an opportunity to provide insight from her experience, to create positive change for victims and to help support others in need. She has an Honours degree in Business Management and has previous charity experience including in the Enterprise Unit of the Institute of Cancer Research. She also hopes to bring expertise from her role in the learning and development space.

Annette Brooks

Annette is a Business Analyst with over 15 years experience of working on digital transformation and public sector programmes specialising in software development projects. With a BSc in Computing Studies and an MSc in Cybercrime, she has a strong interest in cybersecurity awareness and the impact of technology on online safety. Her research explores virtual social crimes, including sexual assault in the Metaverse.
As an Advisory Board Member for The Cyber Helpline, she is committed to raising awareness of cyber threats and supporting victims of online harm.

Grant Ongers
Grant is a Principal Consultant at Equal Experts and former OWASP Foundation Global Chair. Grant is a firm believer in security enabling delivery, not blocking it.  He is well-known in the international InfoSec community, with 10+ years of experience in Dev, 20 years in Ops and 30 years in Sec (mostly white hat). He is a firm believer that there's no such thing as DevSecOps - just DevOps done right, and that compliance can lead to security (and the other way around). Alongside his role as Head of Security Practice at esynergy, Grant provides C-suite advice and guidance on security to FTSE100 enterprises and strategic risk analysis within M&A diligence teams. Grant also volunteers with the Met on response teams and in the digital policing space.

Aliyu Yisa

Aliyu is a startup founder with a background in software engineering and cyber security. He has worked in several industries including telecoms, housing, edTech, FinTech and consulting. He started Fezzant to help organisations make cyber security trainings, programs and tools accessible. Aliyu has been an active voice in the niche and seeks to make it a mainstream topic in cyber security. He also co-founded CyBlack, a strong community helping to grow black cybersecurity talents. At The Cyber Helpline, Ali focuses on improving our accessibility practices to ensure our services are accessible to all.

Yaniv Hanoch

Yaniv Hanoch is a professor of Decision Sciences at Wolverhampton University. Professor Hanoch’s research examines consumers' decision-making and risk-taking across the lifespan and domains. In particular, he has been investigating the underlying mechanisms involved in falling prey to scams and what can be done to improve resilience to scam solicitations. He is also involved in projects focusing on spreading misinformation and on what can be done to protect individuals from misinformation. Professor Hanoch has also worked with external organisations such as Coventry City Council and the Cabinet Office. He has published extensively in economic, public health and psychology journals. He currently serves as an Associate Editor in the Journal of Judgment and Decision Making and Co-Chief Editor of the Journal of Economic Psychology.

Bruce Keeble

Bruce Keeble is Cyber Lead at Interpath Advisory. Part of his mission-driven approach is to reduce the financial and human cost of cyber incidents by helping companies to improve their cyber resilience. He has over 20 years of forensic and investigation experience, where he has performed cyber forensic global and cross-border investigations. His experience includes expert witness reporting in civil and criminal cases in all parts of the UK.

Giles Otomewo

Giles is a Digital Forensic, Incident Response, and IT Professional with over 20 years of experience. He holds NATO Secret Security Clearance and has previously worked with the City of London Police and Rio Tinto providing Cyber Security consultancy, eDiscovery, Incident Response support, and conducting expert witness defence case analysis. Currently, Giles is a Technical Lead and Senior Engineer for a global cyber security company. He designs and implements enterprise security capabilities, including prevention, detection, and incident response.

Mark Belgrove

Mark is a respected security professional with more than 30 years of experience in the IT Security industry and a solid background in delivering security policies, procedures and standards. He has been the Chief Information Security Officer for Yell and several other organisations in different industries, helping them develop their controls and compliance. Mark has served as a Trustee for The Cyber Helpline and was part of the initial team that helped it launch.
