Giles takes on The Great River Race to raise funds for cybercrime victims

Last month Giles Otomewo, one of our Ambassadors, took part in The Great River Race to raise funds for our mission. This remarkable boat race - London’s river marathon - covers a staggering 21.6 miles, stretching from Millwall in the East to Richmond in the West, all while passing under London's iconic bridges. However, this venture was more than just a thrilling race; it was a heartfelt tribute to the exceptional work carried out by our charity and a crucial part of our fundraising initiatives for our October 2023 fundraising campaign.

For Giles, participating in The Great River Race was a one-of-a-kind experience. He joined a team of six dedicated rowers, a skilled Cox, and a guest passenger, all coming together to support the incredible work of The Cyber Helpline. Every contribution made during this event will be directly channelled into our charity, ensuring that we can expand our support to even more victims of cybercrime.

“A rowing challenge like this was a first for me. I hadn’t rowed before or done a lot of prep. It was extremely tough but an amazing experience. Seeing the bridges go by and coming into London that way is an experience I will never forget. Knowing I was helping raise money for victims of cybercrime and the rest of the crew in the boat got me through” said Giles.

A special mention goes to the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, who supported us throughout this adventure. Ji Li, Sabia Sultan, John Gavin, Guy Saunders, Julien Mathonnière, Guy Leppard, and Simon Perriton were part of this very special crew that made this journey memorable and meaningful.
