The Cyber Helpline is a fast-growth not-for-profit organisation supporting victims of cybercrime and online malicious behaviour. Our vision is ‘A world where the cyber criminals don’t win and our mission is to ‘ensure all individuals in the UK have immediate, free access to cyber expertise when they need it’.

Role Summary

The Press Officer will represent The Cyber Helpline with press and encompass both reactive and proactive functions. A key focus will be handling the current incoming media enquiries we receive and supporting proactive campaigns.

Key Responsibilities

The Press Officer will:

  • Respond to incoming journalist/media enquiries, asses which enquires are relevant and support the process of getting the right content or speaker to the journalist

  • Write and distribute press releases and blog posts

  • Work with the marketing team to add a press element to key stories and campaigns

  • Support the identification and achievement of speaker slots at industry events and conferences

  • Monitoring and tracking of media coverage and sharing internally

  • Maintenance of our media contact list 

Person Specification

This role is suited to an individual who is currently working in PR - or has qualifications in this area and is looking to gather experience.

Essential

  • Passion about our mission of supporting victims of cybercrime

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Creative ability to see the key stories of interest for the media in the work we do

  • Ability to create time to volunteer consistently week to week

  • English, marketing or media qualifications

  • Based in the UK

Preferred, but not necessary

  • Experience working in a press/media role

  • Exposure to marketing in the IT or cybersecurity industry

  • Experience volunteering and/or working with volunteers
