The Cyber Helpline

The Cyber Helpline is a movement by the information security community to step in and fill the gap in support for victims of cybercrime & online harm. It is a UK charity that provides free, expert help to victims by helping them understand, contain, recover and learn from experiencing a malicious online issue. Over 600,000 individuals have accessed our help and our helpline has opened more than 50,000 cases.

On top of the opportunity to do some good with your skills, The Cyber Helpline will offer you the opportunity for training, skills development, mentoring and career progression. Perfect for those looking to join or progress in the cybersecurity industry.

Role Summary

The Cyber Helpline has grown quickly to around 150 volunteers and ten staff. With 100% of our team members being remote workers and the majority being volunteers, creating a positive & rewarding culture is key to our success. To continue to develop this, we are looking to add more expertise to our People & Culture team.

The People & Culture Advisor will provide expertise and support across a range of areas, including internal communications, culture development, policies, staff & volunteer contracts and leadership.

There is currently one volunteer in the People & Culture team and a range of staff who deliver the day-to-day tasks associated. This is a leadership role to help us with strategy and direction - and generally support the function.

Key Responsibilities

The People & Culture Advisor will support:

  • Onboarding & induction - finding and vetting the right team members is key to our model. We have a staff member who runs this process, and the successful candidate will provide leadership and governance in this area.

  • Internal communications - we have a range of different teams and tools that can be used for communication. We have a staff marketing team that will support the delivery of internal communications, but building and monitoring a strong internal communications plan will be key to the role.

  • Contracts and employment law - we have a Volunteer Agreement and employment contracts for our staff. Changes are often made to these employment contracts as more or less funding comes in. A part of the role will be advising on changes and ensuring that contract changes are legal and fair.

  • People management structure - we are increasingly thinking about the structure we have around people management and part of the role will be implementing a process here and supporting managers. This will also include support with any disciplinary issues.

  • Project management - helping us deliver key internal projects that support the objectives of the People & Culture function.

  • Change - we are growing fast and our model is constantly evolving. We have a range of feedback mechanisms that team members can use to provide feedback. Analyzing this feedback and suggesting change will be a key part of the role.
